BRAND NEW STRIPPED TRACK + MUSIC VIDEO AVAILABLE TODAY VIA ISLAND RECORDS
BUILDS ON MASSIVE SUCCESS OF “NOW” (ONE OF OLIVIA’s BIGGEST RELEASES TO DATE) AND “JOSSLYN,” WITH OVER 124 MILLION STREAMS
(Jan. 29, 2021 – New York, NY) Olivia O’Brien, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter with over 1.6 billion global artist streams, continues to provoke the extremes of post-modern era romance in “Better Than Feeling Lonely,” her band new stripped track + music video available today. Broadcast premier is on MTV Live, mtvU and the Viacom Times Square billboard. Olivia will also be appearing on MTV’s Friday Livestream show today. The original version of “Better Than Feeling Lonely” was released January 1st as a fan appreciation track and drew amazing support out the gate. The music video is a black and white retro/mod ’70s-inspired performance visual directed by Another Realm (Elizabeth Miranda and Jacqueline Kulla) at the Peppermint Club in West Hollywood.
“Better Than Feeling Lonely,” written by Olivia, follows the overwhelming back-to-back successes of “Josslyn” (released in May), with over 124 million global streams, from The Results Of My Poor Judgment, the second in Olivia’s ongoing series of innovative micromixtape drops (February 2020); and “NOW” (September) which paid homage to Akon’s “Right Now (Na Na Na)” and turned into one of Olivia’s biggest songs to date.
“Josslyn” was a landmark release from Olivia that went viral via TikTok, landed on the Spotify U.S. Viral 50 Chart, and was added to the platform’s Pop Rising, Teen Party, Teen Beats, and Swag! playlists. Laced with the 20-year-old pop singer’s signature poetic vulnerability and comedic vulgarity, the song mined a familiar vein, as she discovered her love interest’s infidelity. It inspired the psychedelic “Josslyn (Official Quarantine Music Video),” filmed entirely at Olivia’s home. Reflecting the new reality of life under self-quarantine, it became a standout clip in the age of at-home DIY content amid social distancing. The final touch was the “Josslyn (Remix)” featuring rapper 24kGoldn. Their first collabo, it illuminated a poignant portrait of someone who knows they’ve done wrong, as 24kGoldn’s energetic verse drifts naturally into a wistful register that is guaranteed to pull on the iciest of heartstrings.
“Better Than Feeling Lonely” continues the positive career trajectory of one of Island’s most promising young singer-songwriter/visual artists. With over 1.4 million Instagram followers, she first earned success in 2015, with “i hate u i love u,” her 1 billion-streaming RIAA triple-platinum, self-composed debut smash collaboration with gnash, introducing Olivia as a rising pop star to be reckoned with. She was selected for Paper magazine’s "100 Women Revolutionizing Pop Music." She has also received overwhelming praise from NYLON, V Magazine, and Ones to Watch, as well as Cosmopolitan, Complex, Billboard, and more.
Olivia’s 25-city headlining it was a Sad f**king Tour of the U.S. and Canada in February and March 2020, which was to be followed in April by performances over both weekends of Coachella, was halted by the global pandemic. New music and tour announce coming soon!
